Job Description

LOCATION-NAIVASHA

Job Summary:

  • Install, maintain, and repair overhead and underground fiber optic distribution, feeder and drop cables and other associated telecommunications equipment (indoor and outdoor fiber access terminals, Joint boxes and fiber distribution pedestals.
  • Test and troubleshoot fiber optic systems from on the distribution and feeder segments to ensure they are within the provided fiber set standards.
  • Provide technical support and assistance to customers and other members of the team
  • Maintain an inventory of equipment and supplies needed for installations and repairs.
  • Splice and terminate fiber optic cables, ensuring a clean and secure connection.
  • Provide technical support onsite or online by guiding the customer in troubleshooting and resolving technical related faults
  • Conduct site surveys using GPS based apps, read and interpret network design diagrams and drawings of planned installations activities.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on existing fiber optic systems to ensure optimal performance.

Qualifications:

  • Diploma in telecommunications or equivalent
    • At least 2 years of experience in fiber optic installation and maintenance
    • Experience with fusion splicing and OTDR testing
    • Knowledge of fiber industry standards and regulations
    • Certifications such as CFOT or FOA are a plus

Job Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment
    • Valid driver’s license class BCE
    • Willingness to work in various environments, including at heights and in confined spaces, and in both indoor and outdoor conditions
    • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends, evenings and night hours
    • Proficiency with fiber optic testing, fusion, and termination equipment
    • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
    • Good communication skills.
    • Ability to interpret technical diagrams and instructions.
    • Able to use a computer to generate and share reports on MS word, excel & Power point

Experience:

Prior hands-on experience in fiber optic installation, splicing, and testing is highly desirable.

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in fusion splicing and mechanical splicing techniques.
    • Experience using fiber optic testing equipment (OTDRs, power meters, VFLs, fiber splicing machines).
    • Knowledge of network cabling standards and protocols.
    • Familiarity with basic electrical work and safety practices.
