Work & Experience
Key Responsibilities
1. Data Collection & Field Operations Locating Enumeration Units: Finding and identifying sampled households, business enterprises, or facilities using specific maps and statistical sampling frames. Conducting Interviews: Administering surveys directly to respondents and completing questionnaires accurately. CAPI Utilization: Using Computer-Aided Personal Interviewing (CAPI) devices (like tablets or smartphones) to capture and record survey responses digitally in real-time. Conducting Callbacks: Re-visiting households or data providers if they were unavailable during the initial visit to minimize non-response rates.
2. Data Management & Processing Data Entry & Coding: Translating raw survey data, capturing it into specialized statistical software, and classifying data based on standard codes. Data Transmission: Securely uploading completed electronic questionnaires and records directly to the dedicated KNBS servers. Quality Control & Editing: Checking completed interviews and database records for consistency, identifying errors, and updating records in county sampling frames.
3. Logistical & Administrative Support Handling Questionnaires: Preparing, printing, dispatching, and receiving paper-based questionnaires when necessary, and keeping detailed checklists of all data providers. Archiving: Cataloging, retrieving, and safely storing physical and digital data returns for future reference. Pre-testing and Piloting: Participating in test runs for newly developed data collection tools to identify and fix flaws before a major survey goes live.
4. Ethical Obligations Confidentiality: Maintaining strict data confidentiality in line with the Statistics Act, ensuring that respondents' personal identification details are entirely protected.
Key Responsibilities
1. Client Consultation & Study Scoping Defining Goals: Meeting with clients to understand what "burning questions" they have about their apps, websites, or AI systems. Methodology Selection: Deciding whether a project requires qualitative deep-dives or quantitative validation (large-scale remote surveys). Creating the Study Plan: Writing the official research objectives, detailing the exact tasks participants will complete, and outlining the target demographics.
2. Sourcing and Recruiting "In-the-Wild" Participants Screener Development: Collaborating with the Research Operations team to build "screeners"—targeted surveys sent out to the global Applause community to find the exact real-world users the client needs. Participant Selection: Vetting and hand-picking the final participants to ensure they match the required personas and localization needs.
3. Study Execution & Test Moderation Script & Prompt Engineering: Writing the exact open-ended tasks and questions that participants will interact with. Managing Unmoderated Studies: Launching remote, unmoderated tests where users film themselves or give written feedback while navigating a client's digital product in their own natural environments. Conducting Moderated Interviews: For deeper qualitative studies, researchers frequently host live, remote 1:1 interviews, sometimes requiring local language proficiency to interpret cultural and regional design preferences.
4. Data Analysis & Executive Reporting Synthesizing Feedback: Combating "data noise" by reviewing hours of user videos, screen recordings, and written logs to identify underlying friction points, bugs, and usability flaws. Creating Actionable Reports: Translating complex user behaviors into clear executive slide decks. Instead of just listing what went wrong, you provide concrete, design-focused recommendations. The "Read-Out" Call: Presenting these findings directly to the client's product managers, designers, and engineers to influence their future product roadmap.
