At the State Department for Diaspora Affairs, under the Welfare and Rights Division, my assigned tasks focused on championing the protection of the rights and promotion of the welfare and interests of Kenyans abroad through the following: Consular Assistance and Protection of Kenyan Workers Abroad • Drafting letters to Kenyan embassies abroad on behalf of Kenyans facing mistreatment from their employers. • Facilitating consular support for cases involving denial of food, physical and sexual abuse, salary delays or non-payment, and mental or emotional abuse by rogue employers or agents. • Advising Kenyans seeking employment abroad to verify that recruitment agencies and agents facilitating their travel are legitimate and registered with the National Employment Authority to avoid exploitation. Repatriation of Kenyans in the Diaspora • Facilitating the return of Kenyan nationals from abroad under various circumstances. • Assisting families in transporting the remains of deceased loved ones back to Kenya for burial upon request. • Coordinating the repatriation of distressed Kenyans, including those whose employment contracts have ended or those facing inhumane working conditions that violate their human rights. Counseling and Emotional Support • Offering counseling services to the families of Kenyans in the diaspora, providing emotional support during grief, especially in cases where a loved one has passed away abroad or is facing distressing conditions. • Engagement and Dialogue with Kenyans Abroad • Promoting continuous dialogue with Kenyans in the diaspora to assess their status, address their concerns, and support their overall well-being. • Emergency Evacuations • Coordinating emergency evacuations to assist Kenyans in crisis situations, particularly in war-affected countries such as Lebanon and South Sudan. Client Assistance and Case Management • Attending to walk-in clients, addressing their concerns, and providing guidance on consular assistance, repatriation, and other welfare services. • Assisting in the documentation and resolution of welfare cases reported by diaspora members. Administrative Support • Supporting administrative functions, including receiving and printing incoming mail, dispatching letters, and maintaining records of ongoing cases.

Key responsibilities involved chemical analysis of water, foods, drugs and chemical substances and include: For Clients • Answered customer questions and pointed them in the right direction. • Assured that the instruments we were using were extremly sterile and in the appropriate scale for accurate results while upholding high standards of functionality and safety. • Recorded the findings from the analysis and structured them for easy distribution to the clients upon request for any explanation needed. • Worked in different stations such as in the food and drugs or water Department to provide optimal coverage and meet production goals. For Analysis • Extraction of organic substances using Dichloromethane and Ethyl Acetate for screening with Gas Chromatography coupled with Mass Spectrometry in herbal samples, liquid samples such as tea and solid samples such as animal feeds and kales. • Determination of moisture content from samples such as maize flour. • Determination of total aflatoxin in samples such as grains, animal feed and maize flour. • Determination of common fire accelerants (petrol, kerosene and diesel) in fire debris and is analyzed using UV-Vis Spectrophotometer. • Preparation of 5N NaOH pellets to be used in sucrose content determination. • Determination of reducing sugar concentration and sucrose content in a sample of honey. • Determination of available chlorine content in sodium hypochlorite disinfectant. • Salinity test in samples such as wet cotton box where the formation of a white precipitate is an indicator of salinity. • Physical and chemical analysis of water and water effluents using titrimetric, colorimetric and instrumentation methods to determine the appropriateness for drinking, environmental discharge, irrigation and construction of roads.
