About the Role A leading multinational is seeking a Legal Counsel & Brand Protection professional to provide legal advisory and safeguard brand integrity across East Africa. You will advise on complex legal matters, manage litigation, and lead brand protection initiatives against counterfeit and infringement risks. The role requires strong leadership, negotiation skills, and the ability to partner with senior management to achieve business objectives within legal frameworks.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide legal advice on litigation, labour law, commercial law, competition/antitrust, and brand protection
- Manage local legal aspects of mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures, and major transactions
- Partner with management to identify optimal solutions within legal constraints
- Lead substantial projects and litigation, including long-term commercial initiatives
- Develop and deliver legal training to internal stakeholders
- Monitor online and offline markets for counterfeit products and trademark infringements
- Conduct investigations and support escalation of brand protection cases
- Prepare reports and maintain documentation of brand protection activities
- Collaborate with internal teams (Legal, Security, Marketing, Sales, Supply Chain) and external partners (law enforcement, investigators, online platforms)
- Recommend improvements to brand protection processes and policies
- Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements
Qualifications & Experience
- Qualified solicitor/barrister with 10+ years post-qualification experience
- Strong background in litigation, IP, competition law, and commercial law
- Experience advising at board/senior management level
- Proven leadership in managing and developing legal teams
- Track record in negotiation and managing complex legal transactions
