Job Description
Responsibilities
- Legal Research: Conducting research on legal precedents, market regulations and policies to provide comprehensive and up-to-date information to the legal team and internal stakeholders.
- Document Review: Reviewing and organizing legal documents such as pleadings, contracts and policies.
- Drafting: Supporting the legal team in drafting legal documents including contracts, letters, opinions, memoranda, legal trackers and regulatory filings under supervision.
- Monitoring: Monitoring changes in legislation and regulations and assisting in developing a legislative tracker across Africa.
- Compliance: Implementing compliance strategies to ensure adherence to legal requirements.
- Legal Support: Collaborating with the legal team to provide support on various legal matters, including legal advisory, projects, commercial negotiations and transactions.
- Administrative: Assist with case management, document filing, archiving, tracking deadlines, managing correspondence and supporting the functions legal technology agenda to improve efficiency.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Requirements of the legal intern:
- Hold a Bachelor of Law (LLB) degree
- Must have attended the Kenya School of Law
- Fluency (written and spoken) in English is required. Intermediate knowledge of French is an advantage.
- Proficiency in MS Office (in particular, Word, Excel, and Power Point) is required.
- Demonstrate good knowledge and keen interest of the law and willingness to learn.
- Ability to offer credible support on matters requiring due diligence and attention to detail.
- Ability to review and interpret the law and draft opinions.
- Excellent communication and writing skills.
- Have good organizational skills, be a team player and possess keen attention to detail.
