Job Description

Responsibilities

  1. Legal Research: Conducting research on legal precedents, market regulations and policies to provide comprehensive and up-to-date information to the legal team and internal stakeholders.
  2. Document Review: Reviewing and organizing legal documents such as pleadings, contracts and policies.
  3. Drafting: Supporting the legal team in drafting legal documents including contracts, letters, opinions, memoranda, legal trackers and regulatory filings under supervision.
  4. Monitoring: Monitoring changes in legislation and regulations and assisting in developing a legislative tracker across Africa.
  5. Compliance: Implementing compliance strategies to ensure adherence to legal requirements.
  6. Legal Support: Collaborating with the legal team to provide support on various legal matters, including legal advisory, projects, commercial negotiations and transactions.
  7. Administrative: Assist with case management, document filing, archiving, tracking deadlines, managing correspondence and supporting the functions legal technology agenda to improve efficiency.
  8. Perform other related duties as required.

Requirements of the legal intern:

  1. Hold a Bachelor of Law (LLB) degree
  2. Must have attended the Kenya School of Law
  3. Fluency (written and spoken) in English is required. Intermediate knowledge of French is an advantage.
  4. Proficiency in MS Office (in particular, Word, Excel, and Power Point) is required.
  5. Demonstrate good knowledge and keen interest of the law and willingness to learn.
  6. Ability to offer credible support on matters requiring due diligence and attention to detail.
  7. Ability to review and interpret the law and draft opinions.
  8. Excellent communication and writing skills.
  9.  Have good organizational skills, be a team player and possess keen attention to detail.
